Old Moor RSPB, near Barnsley

The last time I visited this reserve there was snow on the ground.
Today was a lot warmer but just as bright. As it was still the Easter school holidays there were lots of families. The pond dipping was very popular!
I had good views of pochard and other water birds including redshank but the yellowhammers and tree sparrows provided the best photographs.
This is a male yellowhammer – characterised by its brighter yellow colouring
The female is less bright and a bit more streaked.
A tree sparrow clearly intent on nestbuilding
I saw four different butterflies around the reserve – most frequently peacockPeacock01
