Spent some time at Attenborough this week. On Wednesday(8/07) had a good sighting of a bittern flying but today (11/07) I was impressed by the abundance of young water birds – tufted duck, coot, moorhen and great crested grebe in particular. I was also pleased to see the kestrel family that has taken possession of what is supposed to be an owl box. I could see three for definite and possibly another lurking in the shadows. These are two of them. I think the one on the left – with its beak – open is a young one. The other adult is on the other end of the box.
I think the faint writing on the box is ‘WICKES’. There is a branch nearby!
