It really has been a week to remember and it’s only Tuesday. Glancing out the kitchen window this morning I saw this green woodpecker arriving for a poke around in the lawn. They like ants but I don’t recall seeing any lately.
This is the sharpest picture and nicely framed – but I have clipped the tail a bit.
All I need now is a lesser spotted woodpecker and I shall have the set!
Earlier this morning I stepped outside to get a better view of a wren in the garden when this mystery bird turned up again. After consulting the field guide I think it is a juvenile willow warbler. Since we are at least a mile from the nearest body of water this is unexpected but still a welcome “first”.
