Took advantage of the bright spell today to visit one of my favourite nature reserves – Old Moor near Barnsley. We saw a lot of different ducks – including a group of goosanders but the waders we often see were elsewhere. Compensation came in the form of small birds – this is a selection.
This is the first redpoll of the year for me. It gets its name from the red patch on the head (poll – as in poll tax!)
Female and male bullfinches on a seed feeder. Chaffinches, goldfinches and greenfinches were also much in evidence.
It has been a good year for long tailed tits. Apologies for repetition but they are such sweet little birds
