You may say ,”What on earth is a whimbrel?” Well, it’s a lifetime first for me down at Attenborough NR this morning. I thought it was a curlew at first but a more experienced birder put me right as well as offering me a better view in his ‘scope.
It was a fair way away so not brilliant pictures. You can see why I thought it was a curlew but the whimbrel is a smaller bird and the bill is shorter.
That was the high spot of the year so far but I managed two more firsts, clear shots of a blackcap and a sedge warbler. Here’s hoping for a clear shot of a female blackcap soon.
The Egyptian goose family is still thriving and I saw several greylag geese families with healthy broods.
