The Sand Martins Return

I was delighted to visit the Sand Martin hide (after a long period of closure) and get some oblique views of the returning migrants. I can never get really good shots as they don’t hang about and I’m looking through a double glazed window which is a bit smeared. It is great that they have taken well to their artificial nest site. This hide is well worth a visit. It is behind the Visitor Centre if you are not familiar with it.

In addition to seeing my first tern of the season and a pair of goldeneye this pintail gave us a good show in front of one of the viewing screens. It is showing off the pointed tail from which it gets its name.
