For those of you who are not local to me, ‘Highfields’ is a public park with a boating lake adjacent to Nottingham University. Along with the university it was given to the people of Nottingham by Baron Trent – Jesse Boot (of ‘Boots the Chemist’). It is a popular place to visit and can be guaranteed to showcase a variety of wildlife. The best shot of my walk around the park on Sunday 23rd was this majestic heron perched on a post in the water.
A green woodpecker was loudly ‘yaffling’ and I managed to get a glimpse of it but no picture. I did see a single juvenile great crested grebe with its parents but that is the only one I have seen anywhere this year.
Below is a selection of some of the other water fowl enjoying the sun.
