On my way to check on the grebe nest at Attenborough NR on yesterday (Tue 15th) I saw another birder training his camera on a willow tree. He had spotted a kestrel lurking in the branches quite close. I managed some reasonable shots before it flew off.
We had much better views when it decided to roost on some nearby power lines.
The grebe news was not so good. The nest was empty and occupied by squatting coots. However the single chick from the clutch of 7 eggs stands a good chance of thriving with the attention of two parents.
Finally another green woodpecker seen on the University Park this morning (Wed 16th).
