This female great spotted woodpecker has visited the garden several times in the last few days. It gathers some of the sunflower hearts from the feeder, deposits them on the trunk of the apple tree in front of it and tucks in before returning to the feeder for more. The goldfinches are not intimidated by this much bigger bird and continue to empty the feeders at a rate of knots!
