I was please to see goosanders at Attenborough this morning. They are winter visitors to our area and are my first spots of the season. These diving ducks have a saw toothed and hooked bill designed for catching fish. The male is on the left. The female usually has a more reddish brown head. Perhaps this one is moulting or just having a bad hair day.
The bright sun shows up the colours on this male teal – another winter visitor.
