Just one shot representing a good day’s birdwatching at Wollaton Park and ANR in which I had a close encounter with a pair of mandarin ducks (male above) which were tame enough to eat out of my hand and wild enough to see off a much bigger crow. The other birds of note were some warblers: grasshopper warbler, blackcap, sedge warbler and chiffchaff as well as the unmistakable song (but not sight) of a cetti’s warbler and two jays, which seemed to be a pair. The heronry at Wollaton Park is booming with many youngsters and I had another good view of a great crested grebe catching fish by the visitor centre at ANR.
