I wasn’t expecting much wildlife in the garden on the last Sunday of Summer but a 15+ flock of starlings defied the wet weather to raid our bird feeders. Some were clearly juveniles lacking the full adult plumage. They start out a middling grey colour and develop the adult plumage from the tail end as they mature. This one still has a balaclava helmet of grey juvenile feathers contrasting with the brown, black and white of its wings and body.
