The birdwatching came to me at lunchtime today (Sun 28th). Coming into the kitchen to check on the roast potatoes I found this green woodpecker filling his beak with (presumably) ants on the lawn. He stayed for quite a time so I was able to get a number of good shots – risking a burnt Sunday lunch. Here is a selection of the best.
The last two times we had a visit from this bird the grass was either burnt dry by the sun (July 12th) or covered in snow (March 2nd). It seemed to be getting a lot more to eat on today’s visit.
