Despite the freezing temperature and somewhat watery sun we took a walk around Nottingham University Park this morning (18/01). There was ice on the shallower parts of the lake which may account for the low numbers of water birds – mostly mallards and tufted ducks. On our way for a large latte at the Djanogly Centre we saw birds in the trees at the east end of the park which turned out to be mainly redwings with one or two mistle thrushes. They were feasting on the red berries as seen in these two pictures.
