.
It was a pleasant surprise this morning to have a visit from this great spotted woodpecker long enough to take some pictures and a video. This rather scruffy looking bird is a male judging by the red patch on the back of his head. In recent weeks we have been visited by a female so if they are a pair we may see some offspring in the garden like we did in the summer of 2019. I suspect they may be nesting in the golf course which is about 200 metres away (as the crow flies).
In the last few days I caught our bluetit pair exchanging a love token morsel and the goldfinches continue to eat the dandelion seeds. Now two weeks old the NTU peregrine chick will soon be too big for its mother to brood.
