Continuing our Sunday stroll around the Highfields boating lake these yellow irises made a welcome splash of colour along the shore.

The sunshine made the drake red crested pochards appear extra colourful. I counted about 5 males and only one female. It looked like she had paired up with the individual pictured above.
Normally found in paved areas a pied wagtail was scurrying about on the lakeside parapet making frequent quick flights to grab flying insects.
